zero tolerance

we spent several years documenting amateur graffiti throughout europe, intrigued by this form of teenage self-expression which has to contend with being illegal in the public sphere and illegitimate in an art context. the book collects our photographs into a stack of rainbow-colored prints made from black and white plates. these are folded and loosely bound by a paper band, which can be removed to allow for the display and re-arrangement of these images. each book includes a cardboard with texts taken from an anti-graffiti website. they are explaining the many ways in which graffiti damages the community, including strategies on how to prevent, remove, and report vandalism.

the prints work with a similar performative act as the anonymous writers: through colour interventions on the printing machine every sheet has a different colour range and an unique character.
